it should burn off pretty fast. there is a north wind in the northern sacramento valley. it will get here. so 60s to 70s and 80s coast and bay. here is sal. >> steve, good morning. right now traffic is moving along pretty well if you are driving around the bay area there are no major problems so far on the roads. this is a look at westbound 24. it looks nice. also the morning commute is moving along very nicely if you are driving on northbound 101 approaching the 80 split. now let's go back to the desk. >> we begin our 6:00 hour with developing news from the south bay. pg&e crews are working to repair a gas leak in san jose. a van crashed into gas meters outside of an apartment building. we want to take you live this morning. emergency crews capped the leak a few hours later. it took several hours to repair. lorraine blanco have a live update.

time is 6:01. in case you are wondering bart service is running back to normal. now more on that fire to shut down the train. bart is inspecting the track out there this morning. make sure there is no residual problems. cara liu is live in oakland with the fire investigation update and how bart service is doing now. >> reporter: good morning. first i want to show you the tracks up here. bart service is functioning normally again if you take a look at this elevated track here. the trains we saw just a little bit ago running normally. this is a san francisco bound train here from the west oakland bart station. a lot of folks happy to see this. and a day ago bart service shut down all morning long. it was a melt down of a morning commute for just about anyone trying to get across the bay. the service did resume yesterday before 4:00 in the afternoon. this morning bart says it's

business as usual. folks we talk to waiting for their trains were relieved. >> it's nice to see them working. it's a little interesting. but that fire was crazy. >> reporter: bart officials tell us they will be looking at how quickly they notify other transportation partners and get everyone on the same page. investigators are looking for three people seen near the west oakland construction site moments before it turned into a raging inferno yes morning. the fire burn down a senior comet plex urn disinstruction. it was burning so. and of course anyone with information about these suspicious folks, they are asked to call the oakland police department. we are live in west oakland cara liu. oakland fire investigators are searching for the cause of an overnight house fire. take a look at that.

it started add 11 -- started at 11:00. firefighters had to break into the house which was boarded up. they did have the fire out in a half hour and no one was hurt. 6:03. students are refusing to leave president obama's campaign office in downtown oakland. ktvu tara moriarty joins us now from right in front of the office with what the students are calling on the president to do. >> reporter: these protestors have occupied this office. if you take a look behind me they are sitting in front of the window. we are not allowed inside and they are not allowed out. we were not allowed to speak to them in front of the camera. we had to conduct their interviews by phone. they are demanding president obama issue an executive order to stop deporting illegal youth that are eligible for the dream act. under the acts rigorous provisions undocumented youth can become citizens if they meet certain requirements.

they can't get into trouble with the law, they need to get a college degree or serve two years in the military. these demonstrators say in an effort to target criminals president obama ask hurting every day people and tearing families apart. >> obama has supported a record number of undocumented people. even more than president bush and actually more than any other president in the history of the u.s.. and he is separating families. he is deporting people that want to get an education and want to do things right. >> now all of these protest to haves are risking deportation by doing this but they say they don't care they have to take a stand. live from oakland i'm tara moriarty. today president obama is taking a break from the campaign trail to celebrate gay pride month. he will host a reception at the white house before heading to chicago. coming up at 6:15 why today's event is so important for the gay community. 6:05.

the clock is ticking toward tonight's midnight state budget deadline in sacramento. we'll go back to the -- the democrats control the state legislature. they are pretty much in charge and in agreement of governor brown $92 billion spending plan. there is still major deaf fits. democrats and the november nor is over -- california voters play a major role in tackling callaises budget crisis. we'll be the ones voting on the governors income and sales tax plan this coming november. santa clara county board of supervisors is supposed to

approve a $4.1 billion budget tea. it does not emphasize job or program cuts. it does include a $1.2 million general fund that helps pay for social services. 6:06. time is also running out for congress to pass a new transportation bill. negotiations between the house and senate a falling apart. transit systems all over the nation could be effected. coming up in a live report at 6:15. we'll tell you the sticking points in congress that they are trying to work out. 6:07 is the time right now. back over to sal. how is the commute? >> it's not bad at all. yesterday was really bad. so today we've been telling you a lot bart has been running on schedule. we have a slight delay from daily city to san francisco. there is track repair work going on near the balboa park station. it's a minor delay. certainly nothing like we had yesterday. the trains are running. let's go out and take a look at westbound bay bridge. there is a little bit of a

backup here in some of the lanes. no major problems once on the bridge. small delay here. and the morning drive on the san francisco freeways. northbound 101 that traffic looks good. if you are driving on the peninsula 101 and 280 looking good. trying to get up to the olympic club or one of the areas there it's looking good there. u.s. open has free shuttles up to the olympic club. let's go to steve. >> and sal, the weather was really nice yesterday afternoon. >> how will it be today? >> more of the same. kind of layers. maybe grab a jacket. system that is coming by is going to fall apart. a little low will form in southern california. that will crank up the wind in the east bay hills. so it's a sign of things to

come. as that fire danger goes up. this looks like a very -- the fog comes back. water temps. westerly breeze. upper 40s low 50s. a cool, cool morning although the nights are not that long. that little system falls apart. here comes high pressure to the north. that means it turns that wind northerly. so 70s and 80s and 90s. i don't think we will see any 100s around here. sunny and warmer. patchy fog. but it's going to get wiped out. 52, 62 and a high of 66 today. highs today 60s-90s. hit brentwood.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. we do have new information and new video of the rescue of a sailor with bay area ties. it happened this week off the coast of mexico. max young is a former antioch schoolteacher that has spent the past 12 years sailing around the world. his trip came to an end 900 miles from his final port when a whale smashed a hole in his boat. the u.s. coast guard came to his rescue >> he saw some whales and he was whale watching essentially. noticed there were several of them and then one reached the surface right at the stern of

his boat and lost his rutter and propeller. >> the u.s. coast guard supplied this video to us. the coast guard in alameda played a major role in that rescue. a missing fishing boat that sank during a violent storm in new mexico has been found. the divers located the charter boat erik this week during a series of dives. that boat you might remember capsized almost a year ago with 27 fishermen from northern california on board. one man died. several people are still list as missing and presumed dead family members will have to decide whether to recover the bodies or leave the wreckage as a memorial. there are transportation troubles in washington, d.c.. negotiations reportedly are at an impasse for a new federal transportation bill. scott mcfarland is live in our washington, d.c. newsroom to tell us about the projects that could be in jeopardy. scott. >> reporter: cal tran says if

congress can't break its stalemate $23 billion in local rail projects could grind to a halt. also money from any other projects nation-wide. states would lose large chunks. bart could be impacted. senator barbara boxer says it's make or break time. >> if that runs out, that means that the number of riders that we're seeing over $10.4 billion last year which is the highest we have seen in 50 years. that means we have the large number of riders coming but don't have the resources there to support the riders. >> reporter: 10.4 billion mass transit riders at risk as washington continues the stalemate over the federal transportation bill. here's the sticking point whether it will i prove

offshore drilling and that keystone pipeline in the bill to pay for all these transit projects. live in washington scott mcfarland. several large fire fighting tankers are getting ready to fight the fire. they are just sitting on the tarmac because of rules governing the use. they are only allowed to "planes when all tanker planes are fighting fires or are not available. president obama just signed a bill to add more tanker planes but they won't be ready to use for weeks if not months. one of the many wile fires currently billings is no -- more than 100 structures -- the fire is only 15% contained.

and viru. president obama is once again standing behind the gay community. later today the president will host a reception at the white house in honor of gay pride month. he says it's another attempt to level the playing field. after the reception, the first family will leave for chicago. republican presidential candidate mitt romney is spending the day in new hampshire as part of a five day bus tour called the every town counts tour. romney will stop in 14 cities he think president obama forgot about. after new hampshire romney will continue on to pennsylvania, ohio, wisconsin, iowa, an county officials say thousands have been eating up plants. so far they haven't ruined in crops. just backyard gardens. solano county agricultural

department says you should put nits over your plants. grasshoppers don't live that long, the problem is only expected to last a couple weeks. also right now crews are fogging for mosquitoes in contra costa county. the fogging will take place by highway 4 near discovery bay and by the byron highway in byron. this comes a day after a second case of west nile virus was confirmed in contra costa county. it was discovered in a dead crow in walnut creek. it's 6:19. we want to go back to sal. >> we do have things popping up. not a lot. i want to remind you that bart is running today. they are on time. that is good news far lot of people that are watching. let's go outside. i want to show you the traffic on highway 24 looks pretty good from walnut creek to oakland. it is nice drive all the way down to the 580 interchange. this mornings drive is a little

still a little component of a delta breeze. west, southwest. couple upper 40s. a little cool even though the nights are so short now. that is a chilly air mass. it will get modified pretty fast as we get that north, northeast wind. few high clouds. partly to mostly sunny later on. as that system kicks in that will give us a northeast wind. temperatures warming up. that will be the warmest day. one and out. that fog will come back pretty fast here. i think it will be gone mostly by noon and sunny. 66 today. not bad. 60s and 70s and 80s to low to mid 90s. you get that north wind mid 90s closer to the coast and bay. 70s nice. tomorrow will be warmer. 80s fremont. and 60s along the coast or 70s upper 70s low to mid 80s on

the peninsula. fog creeps back. big cool down monday and tuesday. 36,000 strollers are being recalled. cole craft three and four wheel strollers. there are five reports of fingers being caught in the hinge that is used to adjust the handlebars on the stroller. if enough pressure is applied, it could cut off a finger. they were sold in several color combinations. california home prices jump to nearly two-year high last month. data quick says the median price is up nearly 8 .5%. he's free from frizz after

good morning. 6:25 now. traffic on 80 westbound looks pretty good. it's a little crowded. not all that bad on the way down to the mccarthur maze. dozens of cars damaged in that. it was in dallas. a huge hailstorm and cars were stuck on the freeway during that hailstorm. the backup was caused by other drivers who stopped under an overpass to protect their own cars. traffic came to a complete halt. leaving many drivers stuck out in the storm. golf ball size hail damaged the windshields of many of the stranded cars. many people were upset but some say they probably would have done the same thing. 6:26. the bicyclist accused of hitting and killing the bicyclist has to turn himself into officials sometime today.

here's video of 36-year-old chris bucchere that was posted on youtube. he is facing felony manslaughter charges for killing and running over sutchi hui. he showed gross negligence by speeding through several stop signs before hitting hui. bucchere posted online comments saying he was upset he lost his helmet in the collision with hui. the football star incarcerated for five years will work out with the 49ers on monday. 26-year-old linebacker banks tweeted he will participate in the mini camp with the team. when he was 16 a teenage girl accused him of rape and kidnapping. banks has been completely exonerated. he has worked out for several nfl teams. time is coming up on 6:30.

markets are headed. >> all right we'll smile and say good morning, to you. thank you for joining us here. y, it's friday p it's june 15th i'm dave clark. >> and i'm pam cook. time is 6:30. >> we are starting with developing news. a story we have been following since 4:30. a gas leak in san jose causing big problems at an apartment complex. lorraine blanco has been out there now. she is back with the very latest on what is going on now. lorraine. >> reporter: i just got off the phone with the media rep and he told me that fourouts are without gas this morning. and he's unsure when those units will be able to turn their gas back on. a pg&e crew is on scene right now. they just finished shutting off the line. a van slammed into a handful of meters at this condo comet plex at 1:30 this morning. it caused a gas leak and pg&e had to dig a huge hole in the ground to repair it. >> we had to evacuate the

residence of this complex which is approximately 70-100 people. they were transported over to the community center. >> reporter: people from all but a few units returned to their homes. one person inside the building was taken to the hospital. they are unsure if it was related to the crash or gas leak. there are no other injuries. the driver is okay and so far no charges have been filed. but back here live now you can see that they haven't done much yet to close off this gas meter. we are told they need to actually fix the wall before they can fix the gas meter. that is why they have permanently closed off that gas line. reporting live in san jose lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 news. bart engineers inspected the tracks this morning to make sure there are no more problems from the fire that halted service between the east bay and san francisco yesterday.

ktvu cara liu is talking to bart passengers this morning at the west oakland station which is where it all started yesterday morning. >> reporter: it sure is. and out here at the west oakland station you can see a ton of damage still. the elevated track is just above this and just adjacent to this building. folks riding the train into the city can look out their window and see the remanence of this fire that was the cause of all those problems a day ago. the trains running normally today from oakland to san francisco. this is after a melt down. bart officials tell us they will spend the day reviewing their response to yesterday's fire. including how quickly they were able to get their other transportation partners on the same page. now this mornings service should be business as usual. and that was music to the ears of commuters. >> i thought maybe it might take a couple days for this to be fixed up.

i'm not surprised. so i'm like oh good bart is back in business. >> it's nice to see it working. it was a little interesting. i was able to cut on to the bridge from here. >> reporter: as for the investigation they are looking for three people seen near the west oakland construction site moments before it ignited. the fire did burn down a senior apartment complex under construction and damaged the third rail here at the west oakland bart station. again, bart is back to business as usual. and let's take a look to see how our morning commute looks this morning compared to a day ago. good morning, sal. >> good morning. traffic is doing much better than it was yesterday. trains do take a serious strain off the highway system as we look at the bay bridge toll plaza you can see there is a little bit of a delay. yesterday at this time it was backed up all the way out past the mccarthur maze.

in case you are wondering a lot of people are tuning in to see what is going on. it's a typical commute this morning on the bay bridge and get into the city. bart trains are running with no major delays just like they would on a friday. let's go back to the desk. time now 6:34. a sit in planned this afternoon in oakland by teachers, students, parents, and supporters that want to reverse the closures of five oakland elementary schools. today is the last day of school in the oakland school district. you are looking at video from martha is when ten people -- video from march that is when ten people were arrested. they will be demanding the school district keep all of those schools open. it was a riot that made headlines around the world. now an independent panel issued a scathing report on how oakland police responded to a violent occupy protest outside city hall last october. we have all the details on that

story coming up at 6:45. alameda county superior court judge is in jail this morning. judge paul seeman is accused of embezzling money from an old elderly woman. they removed boxes of evidence and a computer and files. but neighbors say he was an honest man trying to help the woman. >> he was always doing things for her at her place. taking care of her. there was a doctor that got her groceries and things like that. >> the complaint against the judge was filed by the attorney for the woman after she died. now seeman is being held on $525,000 bail and expected to appear in court in the next few days. today the two sides in the ross mirkarimi case are expected to submit their final witness list ahead of next weeks critical hearing before the ethics committee hearing. on tuesday the commission is

things traffic. we have sal. >> yeah. the traffic is much better than it was yesterday, dave and pam. we di have just a lot of problems obviously. let's go out and take a look at what we have with the live pictures. westbound 24 looks good from walnut creek to oakland and all the way dawn to the 580 interchange. and if you are driving on interstate 880 in oakland it has been a nice drive to a relatively uncrowded bay bridge. northbound 101 right there so you might see slow traffic. the rest of the south bay traffic is off to a good start. 6:38 let's go to steve. >> thank you. i think our weather is off to a pretty good start too. already some of that fog is getting wiped out. system is coming in. northerly breeze is beginning to take shape. there was a pretty good fog on the san mateo coast. it's already looking like it's disappearing. if you are heading over to the olympic club i think they are starting off pretty clear. 64 will go for high of 66.

beautiful day. temperatures can really change rapidly over there. north wind kicking in. that means goodbye to the fog. for the weekend starting today and into saturday it will be warm to hot. hot inland be along the coast 75-85. the key could be sunday. one model brings back fog. but inland temps will stay warm for the weekend. fire danger up, up, up. you get that northeast wind. gusts over 40 possible. humidity goes way down. it will be dry as well. this does look like a really quick warmup. tea and saturday maybe parts of sunday and back down on monday and tuesday. water temps off of bodega bay out to the golden gate. really cold. the fog should have no problem forming once the west wind kicks in. low 50s for many. you can see right there that is the system the signature a little low is forming down here. north wind behind that.

meters outside of an apartment building right there. this is an branham lane east. it happened several hours ago. pg&e crews capped off a gas leak several hours ago. it could take several more hours to completely finish the repairs. >> that is a welcome sight. bart service normal, running on tile this morning. commuters don't expect to be late for work today like many were yesterday because of that big fire that knocked out rail tower from the east bay to the san francisco area. as a precaution those engineers you see they check the tracks earlier this morning before any trains headed out. in the meantime authorities reporting investigating reports of three people were in that area minutes before that huge fire started. >> and the clock now ticking toward tonight's midnight state budget deadline in sacramento. california lawmakers go back to the state capitol add 11 -- at 11:00 this morning to try to

meet the deadline and avoid having their paychecks docked. happening right now four undocumented students are refusing to leave president obama's campaign head quarters in oakland. tara moriarty joins us now from telegraph avenue from what they are demanding and the new information we just found out. >> reporter: a few minutes ago the obama administration made an announcement. they will stop deporting and begin giving work permits to younger illegal immigrants that came to the u.s. as children and since led law-abiding lives. we talked to the protestors. they said it's not good for them. the law abiding part is the glitch they are getting hung up on here. it can range from anything to murder to down a small offense like driving without a license. if you are caught driving without a license you are still in jeopardy of getting caught in the dragnets of the united states deporting you is what

nay are arguing here. now inside here you can see the woman blanca she is a student at sf state. she was brought to the u.s. when she was six months old and is unable to get residency. >> there are many people that are scared and feel like they have to go. many people that are here and can't do anything about it because you fall in love with your community and the people around you and if i do this i can make a lot of people feel safe. >> now the sit in is part of a national effort to disrupt campaign offices. there are other sit ins taking place in los angeles, ohio. we'll get more coming up. we are live in oakland i'm tara moriarty. new this morning three

people are dead, another critically injured after an early morning shooting on the campus of the university of alberta. that shooting was apparent armed robbery of one or more armored vehicles. it happened just after midnight in an area that has residences and shops. no students were involved. police are still looking for the people responsible. hayward police say they need help to solve the murder of a postal worker found dead in a dump two years ago. 61-year-old nancy rogers body was found in san leandro in june of 2010. she was reported missing after she did not show up for work at her shift in a post office in hayward. investigators believe rogers was killed and put in a dumpster. police are hoping someone will come forward with new information. $100,000 reward is being offered. our time now 6:47. a fight that happened right near a san francisco muni streetcar was caught on tape. coming up at 7:06 what was

happening nearby as these two women were fighting? we are learning the cost of the recent occupy the farm protest in the east bay. a group of protestors took over ten acres of land owned by the university of california. a police raid one month ago rended that three week occupation. uc berkeley administrators say the total cost of the prest was more than $300,000. the university will try to recoop its losses in a level suit filed against 15 protestors. 6:48. an independent commissioner has released a scathing report by response to the oakland police department to a violent protest last fall. that panel has been investigating the night of october 25th and the riot that captured international attention. the commission founded the police were under staffed and prepared to confront the rowdy demonstrators outside of city hall. this report is the latest blow to the oakland police

237. some stop and go traffic as you bunch up there. & this morning on interstate 880 north and southbound traffic that is moving along very nicely. 6:49 let's go to steve. >> thank you. a few high clouds associated with a very weak system. the fog is going right down the coast. it will be sunny for all by 9:00. even down toward parts of santa cruz mountains that had fog yesterday. but there is our little system. there is not much left of it really. a few high clouds up there. u.s. open weather looks great. patchy low clouds at best. they will be gone pretty fast too. they are moving down the san mateo. temperatures should be really nice. beautiful weather yesterday. yesterday 60s and 70s & 80s. today we'll have low 90s. a really cool morning. although the nights are very short. upper 40s and low 50s but these will move apophases.

it is showing signs along the coast. you can see a little low forming. that will develop off of southern california. the high builds in here. the high doesn't like the low. so mostly sunny here this morning after that morning fog. and than the high kicks in big time. it looks like a rapid warmup but only for a day and a half. today and tomorrow all signs point toward sunshine and warm to hot conditions. 60s and 70s coast. around the bay 70s and 80s and 90s. patchy fog not much of it holding on too long today. noneny and warm -- sunny and warmer. petaluma 88. 90 in concord. hit brentwood. alameda 73 degrees. 9 morgan -- 89 morgan hill. 79 san mateo. san bruno 74. 70 in the city and warmer tomorrow. windy and warmer to hot tomorrow. it looks like that fog comes back sunday and a big cool down across the board on monday and tuesday.

>> thank you. new survey shows the remote work force is growing. 73% of the employers questioned say they will hire employees that work independently and off site this year. 32% say remote workers did job that otherwise would not have been done. just 3% say they would have hired a full-time employee to do the job. now the study was done by the website that matches employers with workers that can perform jobs remotely. the company that makes cocoa puffs is being accused of trying to destroy marriage. general mills is being criticized that is after the food maker says it propose as proposed ban on same sex marriage in its home state of minnesota. same sex marriage opponents are boycotting star bucks for a similar stand in the state of washington. 6:52. a new program for bart for commuters with wheels. cyclist may like it but other riders may not.

dow jones up almost 48 points. nasdaq and s & p almost up a quarter of a percent. big fire at a redwood city apartment complex being investigated as an arson. we were there 4:30 in the morning wednesday shortly after the fire started. investigators now confirmed the fire was deliberately set but they haven't elaborated on it. the fire destroyed two units and several cars in the carport. no one was hurt but eight of the residence were displaced. the mother of a cyclist killed in a hit and run is pleading with the driver to come forward. joshua was hit on highway 1 in early may. his body was discovered 12 hours later by some other cyclists. he was riding from san francisco to florida in honor of his best friend that died while on vacation. police say they are looking for 2002 to 2005 dodge ram pickup truck. bart fares are going up.

they will go up by 1.4% beginning july 1st. that is a 5-10-cent increase on most trips. the shortest trips you won't see a fee hike. bart will be testing a program that could mean more bikes on transit service. bart will allow cyclist to bring their bikes on trains every friday during august including commute hours. bart says they will reconsider the decision after every friday to decide if this program is a good one. >> apple fan could walk away with a piece of company history today. a working apple one computer goes up for auction. it's expected to sell for 180,000 or more. even though it does not have a monitor or power supply or keyboard. it does come with a user manual. and the apple one by the way it runs at 1,000 times slower than
